Davido was born David Adedeji Adeleke on the 21st of November 1992. He is also known as OBO which is the acronym for Omo Baba Olowo.
Davido is a singer, songwriter and record producer. He shot into the limelight in 2011 when he released the hit track, ‘Dami Duro’. He is also the co-founder of HKN Music. The record label is home to Sina Rambo, B. Red and DeeKay and Davido co-founded the label along with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke.

Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia on the 21st of November, 1992 to Chief Deji and Vero Adeleke. He relocated to Lagos at a young age.
His father, Adedeji Adeleke is a billionaire businessman. He is the Chairman of Pacific Holdings.
Davido attended the British International School in Lagos. He was enrolled as a student of Business Administration at the Oakwood University in the U.S but his passion was music so he tried to leave school and relocate to Nigeria to follow his music career but his father wasn’t in agreement with the decision.
He was sent him back to continue his education but he ended dropping out because of bad grades. But his father insisted that leaving school wasn’t an option. On the other hand, leaving music wasn’t an option for Davido. Eventually, Davido’s father decided to allow him study Music at Babcock University where he graduated from in 2015.
He was able to achieve this after his father agreed to build a music department for the school based on his influence as a founding member of the university and the chairman of its inaugural Board of Trustees.
Also, Davido revealed in an interview that he was able to graduate as a part-time student in such a short period of time because of the credits he carried from Oakwood University in Business Administration in 2010 and extra summer semesters.

Davido’s Musical Career
Davido’s music interest grew while he was at Oakwood University. He bought musical equipments and started making beats, in addition to recording vocal reference.
Eventually, he dropped out of Oakwood University when he started getting bad grades and relocated to London, where he focused more of his energy towards vocals as opposed to production. Initially, he was in a group called KB international in America but it wasn’t working as he would expect so he moved back to Nigeria in 2011. But the singer had to put aside his music career after he agreed to honor his father by enrolling at Babcock University.
Davido released his debut album Omo Baba Olowo in 2012. The hit tracks from the album were Back When featuring Naeto C, Dami Duro, All of You, Overseas featuring Sina Rambo, Ekuro, Gbon Gbon and Feel Alright featuring Ice Prince.
When he released his first musical recording ‘Back When,’ it was a major hit. He released the video of Back When in May 2011 and it was shot by Clarence Peters. Following the success of his first single, Davido released another single, ‘Dami Duro’. The track was produced by Davido himself and it was released on the 30th of October, 2011. Davido showed he was not a one album wonder when he released tracks like Gobe, One of a Kind, Skelewu, Aye, Tchelete (Goodlife) featuring Mafikizolo, Naughty featuring DJ Arafat, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money” featuring Olamide between 2013 and 2015.
When he released the single, Skelewu in 2013, it peaked at number 1 on Afribiz’s Top 100 chart. The song was a hit and its popularity further soared when Davido launched a dance competition for Skelewu with a cash prize of $3000.
The competition was won by Bello Moshood Abiola and an official music video followed soon after which was directed by Sesan. Shortly after the video was released, Davido took to Twitter to debunk the video stating that someone betrayed him by releasing it. He also said he’ll re-shoot the video with Moe Musa, a UK based music video director.
In 2014, Davido collaborated with Mi Casa, Lola Rae, Sarkodie, Diamond Platnumz and Tiwa Savage on a song for DSTV’s Africa Rising campaign, which was designed to inspire Africans to partake in community-based social investment projects. The music video for the song, released on June 24, 2014, was shot and directed by South African production house Callback Dream.
In 2016, Davido signed a record deal with Sony Music. That same year, Davido launched his own label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) after which he signed Dremo and Mayorkun.
Davido has won several awards during the course of his music career. He won the best African act at the MOBO Awards in 2017. He was also the first African act to perform live at the awards.
In 2018, Davido became the first African-based artist to have received his award on the BET Awards main stage. His award was presented by Hollywood actor Omari Hardwick and actress Tika Sumpter.
In 2012, it was reported that Davido had signed a ₦30 million endorsement deal with MTN. The deal unveiled him as the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign for Nigerian youths.
In 2013, it was also revealed that Guinness Nigeria signed Davido to an endorsement deal. He partnered with the company for the “Guinness World of More” concert. Davido’s career as a musical artist has been laced with several controversies. In May 2014, the musician was said to have attacked the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) after missing his flight to London. He accused them of pestering him for money. But the Public Relations Officer for the NIS denied Davido’s allegations and said that they didn’t issue him an exit permit because he didn’t have the proper travel documents with him at the time.
Also, in 2015, one of the popular newspapers in the country reported that Davido and his baby’s mother, Sophia Momodu, were embroiled in a fight over the custody of their daughter Imade Adeleke. The newspaper reported that it all started after Sophie and her family filed a petition against Davido and his family for alleged child trafficking. In a petition sent to the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Davido and his family were accused of keeping Imade away from her mother, as well as trying to flee Nigeria with the baby.
Davido is said to be worth $16 million as of 2017 according to Forbes Magazine. His musical career is his primary source of income. He also earns money from his endorsement deals. For instance, the deal with MTN earned him N30 million while the Close Up deal gave him N50 million.
Also, the singer earns N6 to 10 million in shows in Nigeria while his international shows earn him at least $30,000. It is said that Davido often performs at 40-50 shows globally.
Davido also claims to own a private jet which was said to have been offered to him by his father because of frequent tours to different countries for shows. However, Davido’s ownership of this jet is yet to be substantiated.
Additionally, the singer has houses both in Nigeria and the U.S. He has a house in Atlanta and in the Lekki area of Lagos. His Lekki home was said to have been built a couple of years after he launched his music career.
